Well, that headline is certainly some clickbait.
But it’s true. It’s just not the kind you are thinking.
I am in love with the clothes in my closet, and I want the whole world to know. I think about them all the time. When I can’t sleep, I fantasize about outfits I will put together.
And it’s all due to Jennifer Ward, the genius clothes consultant on the Raleigh Green Gables’ team. Over the last few months, she has overhauled my entire closet — all four seasons and winter coats.
My intention in working with Jennifer was to create a capsule wardrobe for each season. That’s where every single piece of clothing can be mixed and matched all day long. And it means you don’t need many clothes because the combinations are endless.
First, Jennifer purged clothes that were outdated and did not fit my body type. I had no idea petite women should not wear prints on the top. Do you know how many print shirts I owned? I can’t do batwing shirts or long skirts or long coats, either.
I took most of the give-aways to Fifi’s consignment shop in Cameron Village, where you don’t need an appointment, and I made some good money. The rest went to charity.
Jennifer kept solid-color shirts and suggested adding a few, like a white-collared shirt. She also suggested some boyfriend jeans and a few bell-bottom jeans.
Sometimes I went shopping alone — because she told me exactly where to go and what to get. Sometimes she came with me. And she found the most amazing items. (Keep in mind, I now had room in my closet for new things. But we never bought very much because I didn’t want too many clothes.)
Jennifer shopped the sales for me, or we bought pre-owned items. I love recycling! I don’t think I’ve paid full price for more than one or two things.
Then Jennifer created outfits with every piece in my closet.
Here’s the thing. I now only have about 15 solid-color shirts in my fall/winter set, but because we created a capsule wardrobe, Jennifer easily wrote up NINE PAGES of notes with suggestions on how to wear each item I have. And all my clothes are wearable every day.She showed me how to dress up a skirt or dress it down. Most people don’t have enough basics and, instead, have too much fancy they never wear.
The best part? ALL of my clothes, and I mean all — spring/summer, fall/winter and winter coats — fit on one rod in my closet. Before, I had to store my off-season clothes in another closet because I had sooooo many.
Now, I don’t have to switch out my closet every season — time saver! — and I can see everything, which means I wear everything.
I am in love with my closet. And you know what? You should love yours, too. You are worthy of having a closet with clothes you love.
