I recently saw a video with Bob Proctor, author and star of the movie, “The Secret,” and he said something that really resonated with me:
“If you had a goose that laid golden eggs, what would you take care of more — the goose or the golden eggs?”
Well, naturally, we would all agree to care for the goose, he said.
But we are living in a time when most people are only taking care of the golden eggs — i.e. the car, the boat, the beach house, the latest and greatest technology. Because we live in a consumer society.
This caught my attention because I see folks who spend tons of money on the golden eggs and then refuse to spend money on anything that would take care of their physical and mental well-being, like exercise, changing their diet, hiring an organizer, starting meditation, seeing a coach.
That’s because a lot of these folks live in scarcity. They have spent so much on the superficial, so they hoard the golden eggs because they believe the goose will never lay one again, and/or they think they can’t afford to take care of the goose. But they just bought a boat!
What they don’t realize is when they take care of the goose (themselves,) they will actually produce more golden eggs. And when they live in abundance, more golden eggs just appear.
