The master closet is my favorite space to declutter and organize.
- Everyone needs fewer clothes.
- The master closet can be done in just a few hours with my organizing system.
- The results are instantaneous.
- Decluttering your master closet changes your life because it’s easier to get dressed and saves you time.
Until you get me into your closet, though, here are some tips:
Unless it’s a shoe, it should not be on the floor. I once walked into a client’s closet, and she had her Prada handbag on the floor. I about passed out.
Prada. Never. Ever. Goes. On. The. Floor. Ever. Ever.
You should respect your handbags and clothes. Putting them on the floor is not respectful. So this would be a don’t:
Declutter, declutter declutter. You simply do not need 50 shirts. You can’t wear them in a month. In fact, the fewer clothes you have, the easier it is to get dressed in the mornings. We recommend buying fewer, high quality clothes that will last. We also recommend working with stylist, Sheon Wilson. She is a color AND style expert, so she can tell you what looks good on you. Here is a travel wardrobe Sheon put together. (Yes, she will pack for you for trips!) See, you don’t need that much to look good:
Hang like things with like things. For instance, all your tank tops should be together, all your skirts, all your scarves. That way you can see what you have, and you don’t race out to the store when you can’t find your red tank top. See how all the dresses are together, all the shirts, all the linens on the shelf:
Hang clothes by color in the order of the rainbow — ROY G BIV — red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo violate, grey, brown, black. That way you can see when it’s time for an intervention for the number of black shirts you own.
Finally, call us. I know you think it will take you a week to climb out of this:
But when you hire an expert, it only takes a few hours to make it look like this:
