Year of Radical Self-Care

November 1, 2016

Jews just celebrated the Jewish New Year for 5776, so I make resolutions in the fall instead of the first of the year. I love it because who wants to cut back on chili cheese fries and start running in January?

One of my resolutions this year is radical self-care, because it’s time to take care of the goose, which I wrote about last week. That means I am getting my body and my mind in the best physical and mental shape to help me function my best serving others, which means more golden eggs.

Part of my inspiration came from this Angel card I received.

So I want to share with you everything I am doing for my radical self-care. Maybe it will inspire you to shift from wasting money at big-box stores to spending it on you.

I get regular Ayurvedic massage with Gin Burchfield. As I tell everyone, this is not a trip to the Umstead Spa. This is an extra deep tissue massage that uses oils for healing and detoxifying the body, mind and spirit. Gin is also a health coach who has taught me to start my day with leafy greens, like a smoothie. The massage and changes to my diet have given me more energy.

I also started Reiki with Marina Lando. Reiki is a technique where the therapist channels energy into the patient by touching her to activate the natural healing processes and restore physical and emotional well-being.

My children and I have been treated by Vicki Hauth, owner of Raleigh Massage. She has performed manual lymphadic drainage on us to help our allergies. And once a month, Vicki offers a sound bath, where she “plays” glass bowls and uses the vibrations to move energy through our bodies. It’s really a unique experience. Here is my son playing a bowl.

I see Rivka From, a business coach and owner of To Life Coaching, who partners with me and gives me ideas on how to make my business grow. I can’t do it alone. No one can.

I also say no a lot. There’s no website for this one. Rivka has helped, and I practice a lot. Someone asks me to volunteer when I don’t have time? No. Someone asks me to do something I don’t want to do? No. Someone treats me badly? No, I will not help with her event. I’ve even let go of friendships that were not serving me because I said no to being in that energy. I have backed away from most things I was doing before I “woke up.” That means I focus on what’s really important to me.

I wear a Q-Link bracelet, which, “enhances the body’s ability to protect itself from environmental radiation. It also removes some of the blocks to inner transformation to higher and healthier states of being.” I feel it!

Sheon the Stylist has overhauled all my clothes, so I have a capsule wardrobe and don’t feel the need to shop. I feel amazing in my clothes, which boosts my confidence and projects my authentic image. Plus, it’s so easy to get dressed in the mornings.

I gave up checking my personal Facebook page until after the election. I have not watched a debate because I can’t be in Trump’s energy. He just spews hatred, and I don’t want to be around that. Most of my friends post anti-Trump articles, and I found myself reading all of them. It made me anxious and took away time to focus on my family and my business.

I gave up coffee and all diet soda because I started having anxiety. I went to my doctor, Mary J. Forbes, and asked for Xanax. She suggested instead I give up caffeine and take magnesium. Boy am I glad she’s my doctor. I feel amazing.

I have seriously cut back on alcohol, so I can be fully awake. I drink maybe once every two months. And it’s amazing what a difference this makes when you go out to eat. I can really taste the food — not to mention how much smaller the bill is. Also, I let go of some people in my life after not drinking around them. I realized they were toxic. It’s not like I was getting drunk around these folks. Just one or two glasses of red wine had masked it.

I tap on my meridian points with Nick Ortner of the Tapping Solution.

I meditate with Deepak Chopra.

I swim about a mile each week and take classes at barre3, which provides strength training, keeping my back healthy, so I can move your stuff!

A client introduced me to Plexus, which has given me energy and taken inches off my body. I love this product, and I am happy to talk to you about it.

I read a lot of Dr. Wayne Dyer, Bob Proctor and Sarah Prout, and I read books like “The Awakened Family” and “How to Live a Good Life.”

There’s much more, and I will share all of them throughout the year and updating you on the ones I’ve mentioned.

You can do this. You deserve it, too.

Leah Friedman
Hello!
I'm a professional organizer in Raleigh, North Carolina, helping people declutter their homes and work spaces.

Testimonials

After working with Leah Friedman, the room looked and felt calm, rather than chaotic. When I am overwhelmed again, I will certainly hire her expertise and energy. What an investment in order, calm and piece of mind!

Leah helped me to organize several spaces in my home that have been on my “to do” list for years. She arrived on time, ready to tackle the projects, and made something I dreaded doing lots of fun! She never judges, is always encouraging and gets the job done in a reasonable amount of time. I highly recommend her!

Leah Friedman turned a wretched job into fun! It’s true. She even had me laughing. She is worth every penny. We plowed through two closets. They are now nicely organized, and I know where to find my clothes. I even know what I own. Leah hauled about six bags of give-aways to Interact. I heartily recommend Leah. She gets the job done! She a combo of firm, gentle and fun. Just what I needed.

I love the way my master closet looks, and my husband is very happy, too. Thank you so much for helping me through the whole process. I still can’t believe how much work we got done.
