Do you have a doggie toy bin overflowing with stuffed animals, Kongs and squeaky toys?
Does your cat have baskets of things on a stick and little balls?
Just like your kids, your animals do better in a calm, cleared atmosphere. Your dog and cat do not need a million toys. It’s overwhelming.
Throw out torn toys and the ones that have seen better days — i.e. covered in slobber. YUCK!
Donate unused, unopened toys to your favorite rescue group.
Keep his favorites, of course.
If it’s too hard to resist all the pretty things in the pet store, stop going. Your dog does not need 15 leashes and 8 Halloween costumes. They don’t even like wearing costumes, so just stop.
Luckily, my dog knew when she came to my house from Underdog Ranch rescue group, there would not be a ton of toys. She does not even like toys. She will not fetch or chew up stuffed animals. She only has one leash.
She’s the perfect dog for this minimalist because the ONLY thing she LOVES to do is curl up with blankets and her people. She’s all about the experience, not the thing.
And she’s calm as a cucumber.
